Estate Management

Welcome to the Department of Estate Management, Faculty of Environmental Design and Management (EDM), University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. The Department's vision is to be an outstanding world-class real estate department with far-reaching brilliance in scholarly aptitude, research and professionalism. The undergraduate programme of Estate Management that leads to the award of Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Estate Management was approved by the National University Commission (NUC) effective from 2019/2020 academic session, and it is in our plans to start post-graduate programmes soon. However, the primary goal of the Department is to produce competent Estate Surveyors and Valuers with sufficient technical knowledge and skill in order to optimize the use of land resources to facilitate economic development.

Estate Management centres on the art and science of effective utilisation of land and landed property to achieve optimum returns and sustainable development. Judicious use of land to secure optimum return is necessary because land is scarce and indispensable. Its efficient utilisation provides an ethical base founded on the generic and intellectual concept of “highest and best use". The Department's philosophy is to prepare students to appreciate the complexity of legal, economic, technological and social impacts on the use, development and management of land/landed property and consequently produce world-class real estate professionals.

The programme's thrusts are real estate valuation, real estate investments, feasibility and viability studies, property and facility management, real estate agency and brokerage, land administration, and project management. The emerging world trends in technological advancement and environmental concerns, call for the need to design responsive programmes such as ours for future graduates' training in Estate Management. Our quest is to train and develop outstanding real estate professionals who will stand out as the best in Nigeria, Africa and the world over.

The Department is run by seasoned academics who have vast and versatile teaching, research, and community service experience. The Department's pioneer staff include Prof. Olatoye Ojo (pioneer Head), Prof. Michael Tolulope Ajayi, Dr Folake Adeleke, Dr Ibrahim Dabara Daniel, Mr Abiodun Jogunola and Mr Dare Oladimeji. Two of our lecturers in the Department are Fellows (the Professors) while the others are Associates of The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), with every one of us duly registered as Estate Surveyor and Valuer by the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON).

The Department is located at the Faculty of Environmental Design and Management Building, Olajuwon Olayide Extension (Ajibode Extension), University of Ibadan.
